Boston Shopping
According to a recently published study, more people visit Boston, MA for its shopping venues than for sightseeing. Considering the historical and cultural aspects of a city like the Boston, its colonial history, connection with the American Revolution, and the founding fathers, this means that Boston must offer a very significant appeal to shoppers. Boston’s variety of stores and shopping districts is indeed noteworthy. Including, most notably, Newbury Street, Downtown Crossing, and Faneuil Hall Market, Boston’s shopping options are diverse and engaging. There are stores and markets that will appeal to anyone’s particular interests, tastes, style, or fashion.
Newbury Street is an eight block section of the city which possesses a great variety of stores on its own. It is known both for its up-scale boutiques and its avant-garde selection. While many high-end designers have stores located here, the area also houses many independent and up and coming designers and stores. It is also home to many well known restaurants. Newbury Street has wide sidewalks and storefronts that broaden out into the sidewalks. This creates a unique and attractive community atmosphere.
Downtown Crossing, near the famed Boston Commons, offers a particularly friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Since no cars are permitted in the area, pedestrians are free to wander from store to store without fear traffic incidents. One of Boston’s most legendary attractions, Filene’s Basement, is located here. For bargain hunters looking for high style and fashion, Filene’s Basement is certain to be found pleasing. Faneuil Hall Marketplace, sometime also referred to as Quincy Market, houses many charming, traditional boutiques and souvenir vendors. Named for its location next to the historic Faneuil Hall, the market is included in Boston’s “Freedom Trail.” Accordingly, it is close to the heart of Old Boston, and many well-known attractions are only a short distance away.
While Boston may be a well known historical landmark in its own right, its shopping districts are just as appealing. A trip to Boston should certainly include time to visit its many historically and culturally significant attractions, but its shopping options are impossible to ignore.
